Important Note: Prior to the 2023 release, decedents who were multi-racial were assigned to one of four racial categories. This process was known as "bridging." In 2021, the National Center for Health Statistics ceased to bridge race data in the Michigan mortality records and the NCHS ceased producing the bridged population required for rate calculations. Starting in 2010, mortality statistics by race on this site use the reported race from the death certificate--specifically, race alone, with multi-race as its own race category. For statistical calculations, starting in 2010, this site uses vintage population by race provided by the U.S. Department of Census. Because non-bridged population for cities and townships are not available, mortality rates by race at the city level have been discontinued.
