Procedures are surgical or nonsurgical operations, diagnostic procedure, or special treatment reported on the medical record of a patient. The number of procedures is often greater than the number of hospitalizations since some hospitalizations have multiple procedures.

Procedure Rates are the number of procedures per 10,000 population for the year.

Average Length of Stay (ALOS) are the number of days of care accumulated at the time of discharge by patients hospitalized during the year divided by the number of these hospitalizations.  It should be noted that since a hospitalization may have more than one procedures, ALOS reflects not only the listed procedure but also other procedures during this hospitalization.
